Project 24 Artist Residency

Updated: Feb 1, 2023

In January 2023, Jane Anderson, Mira Chorik and A Maree embarked on an experimental and creative pilgrimage to develop a new body of work as part of Project 24 - A one month artist residency at 2nd Space Nambour on the Sunshine Coast. The three Charles Darwin alumni who met while studying creative arts at university, worked in collaboration to explore the boundary between what may be considered public and what may be considered private? how could we create a body of work which responded to the theme? How could the work be in relationship with the performance space? How does this boundary oscillate between different cultural, social and historical contexts? how do we negotiate this boundary? What roles do we play? who decides?

Jane, Mira and A Maree come from complimentary arts practices, varied and adaptable ways of working. Jane Anderson’s creative practice stems from a lifelong passion for embroidery and textile crafts and centres on historically invisible forms of women’s labour. She explores memory and time through cyanotype processes where ghostly impressions are reconstructed and deconstructed within the warp and weft of the textiles. Mira Chorik is an award-winning songwriter and producer who investigates loss and remembrance in performing art installations and the creation of participatory group experiences using mark-making, writing and music. A Maree is an interdisciplinary and multimedium artist who primarily uses video, sound and installation to create inclusive montage narratives. She considers her arts practice into be a creative and compassionate enquiry into the human experience. And the intent of her work often encourages curiosity, self-reflection, and critical thinking on social and environmental issues.
